Animal Shelter Assists Woman in Reuniting with Her Beloved Dog, Who Was Abandoned Without Her Consent

King, a dog who gained attention after being found abandoned in a Burger King parking lot with a note attached to his collar, has been reunited with his owner. The Monee Police Department found King in February and brought him to the South Suburban Humane Society (SSHS) in Illinois, where he received care. Shortly after the police shared King's story on social media, his owner realized that her dog had been abandoned and came to the shelter to explain her situation. She had experienced a health issue and had to move in with family, but a family member had left King in the parking lot. Despite not having a safe place for King to live at the moment, the owner didn't want to put him up for adoption, and SSHS began working on reuniting the pair. King was placed in SSHS's safety net foster program and moved in with a staff member while the owner secured housing.

After a week, King's owner found temporary living arrangements that allowed her to bring him with her, and SSHS shared a video of the pair's joyful reunion. Emily Klehm, the CEO of SSHS, hopes that King's journey inspires others to choose kindness and support keeping pets and their families together. SSHS offers resources like its safety net foster program to help pet owners in need. People who want to support King and his owner can do so through their GoFundMe page, and those interested in helping SSHS can visit its website to learn more.
